A typical UPS is a battery or group of batteries that is set to be converted to AC as a standby in case grid power is temporarily unavailable.
Usually this power is used to run something important, such as a computer/server or a communication system.
What do you want to run? A battery charger?
UPS systems just run for a limited amount of time. Sometimes the limit is just a few minutes. Why would you want just a few minutes? So that you can do an orderly shutdown of the computer or communication system.
If you are trying to keep a hospital running when grid power shuts down, you need an alternate power source, such as a generator; you might use a UPS to cover the time it takes to start the generator and isolate the facility from the grid.
