The answer is “NO” But Why !!

A laptop is not like a mobile phone. I read a few answers and a few of them are incorrect.

A laptop charging and a laptop in use are two totally different things. Let me first tell you how a phone works. A phone requires a battery at all times. The phone drains power from the battery irrespective of whether the battery is charging or not. If you are using a phone while charging, then the phone uses the battery, the battery is charged. The charging capacity is higher than the power drawn, so the battery charges faster than what is consumed. So, as per one of the other answers you received, the bottle of water theory holds. Your phone’s charger is more powerful so the battery charges faster compared to your usage. If you use a low power output charger, like a 5V 0.5A charger, then you can clearly see that your usage drains a lot more power than the rate of charging. This is the case where the hole in the bottle is so big that the charger is not able to replenish it effectively.

Now, the laptop. The laptop does not work this way. A laptop will work even if you have unplugged or removed the battery completely. The laptop’s adapter will provide separate power for the laptop itself and for charging. So, even if you use your laptop while the battery is charging, there is no impact at all. They are two different tasks which take place independently of each other.

In short, no, your battery has nothing to do with you using the laptop on power and no, it will not degrade.
